Moderates. Those voters oft forgot until a closely contended election reminds the Radical Democrats and the Radical Republicans we exist and might be useful. Useful being the operative word. We get used, aka Jerked Around. Sometimes, with enough power for enough time, one or the other of the Radical sections totally forgets about us and/or simply decides we moderates are an unnecessary nuisance. That happened within the GOP in the recent past and they lost some important elections. The Dems are in danger of making the same disastrous mistake while in the euphoria of power-regained. If they don't wake up and remember that moderates count because they tend to vote and that having us vote for them is not a mandate to go back on promises, we will then see pendulums swing. As a matter of fact, in some aspects, they already are swinging. One area is this insane idea of the Radical Democrats that the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution is outdated and that armed citizenry is a bad idea. There are lots of moderates who often support the Dems for whom "gun control" (a misnomer if not an outright oxymoron) is a first rate deal breaker. Attack my Constitutional Right to own and bear arms and you immediately become my foe. This ain't likely to make me see any good you do or to care, even if I do see it. It really does turn me into a one-issue voter. I expect I'm far .... very very far ..... from alone. So, I guess the Radical Democrats had better remember that even moderate Democrates, as well as Radical Republicans, can be and often are 2nd Amendment advocates (aka "Gun Nuts"). You would think, given that they self-describe themselves as the party of the smart-folks, that they could figure it out. The amount of people applying for Concealed Carry permits and buying guns and ammunition is astonishing. The ammunition makers in the U.S. simply cannot keep up with demand. Sure, some of it is the result of hording; but not all of it is. This should tell the Dems something. The moderates are feeling stress over the 2nd Amendment and Obama's going back on his word that he would leave the guns alone. States Rights, that relic of the War Between the States and definitley a pre-JKF-era political player is on the rise again and a major issue in the resurgence is the 2nd Amendment. The most ironic thing about this situation is that most restrictive gun laws came about as Jim-Crow. Does this mean we've come full circle again? |
